ip - Remote Desktop From Outside Network -

i've got school demo tomorrow , because don't have laptop need use remote desktop access db on home machine demo. can access desktop machine on ethernet using ip address ipconfig, here's problem:

the address of home machine ipconfig of form 192.168.1.xxx subnet mask 256.256.256.0

i'm worried once i'm on machine outside of ethernet 192.168.1.xxx address no longer work because think that address relative ethernet. there way can find out computer's public ip address or being paranoid , address have public one?

thanks lot help!

you correct 192.168.1.xxx not work school's network, or @ least won't point home network. local-only address.

what can set port-forwarding on home router forward remote-desktop packets machine @ home, 192.168.1.2.

so you'll need is:

a) public ip of router; can either go 1 of "what ip" websites find it, or use traceroute/tracert see it.

b) configure port-forwarding on home router 192.168.1.2 (the machine db on want remote in to). not sure of exact port router have named option "remote desktop" figure out you. - this, can go http://192.168.1.xxx (or whatever router's local ip is), enter admin credentials, , configure port-forwarding there.

then when @ school, remote home router's public ip, , should work. luck!
